
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the official notification for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025.
Number of Vacancies
For the year 2025, UPSC has announced approximately 979 vacancies for the Civil Services.

Candidates interested in applying for the Civil Services Examination 2025 must complete the online application process. The application window is open from January 22, 2025, to February 11, 2025. To apply, candidates should visit the official UPSC website at upsconline.gov.in.
One-Time Registration (OTR)
Before filling out the application form, candidates need to create a One-Time Registration (OTR) profile. This profile is valid for a lifetime. Candidates who have already created an OTR profile can directly proceed to fill out the application form. UPSC allows candidates to modify their OTR profile once. The window for OTR modification for new candidates is open until February 18, 2025.
The application fee for the examination is ₹100. However, female candidates and those belonging to SC, ST, or Persons with Benchmark Disability categories are exempted from paying the fee.
Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a graduation degree or its equivalent from a recognized university. Those who have appeared for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply. However, they must submit proof of passing the examination if they qualify for the interview/personality test. For candidates with professional qualifications like MBBS, BDS, or Veterinary Science, proof of completion of the internship is required.
Age Limit: As of August 1, 2025, candidates should be at least 21 years old and not more than 32 years old. There are relaxations in the upper age limit for reserved category candidates as per government norms.- Number of Attempts

- OBC Category: 9 attempts
- SC/ST Category: No limit on the number of attempts
The Civil Services Examination consists of three stages:
Preliminary Examination: This is an objective-type examination consisting of two papers. It serves as a screening test. Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Examination.
Main Examination: This is a written examination comprising nine papers of conventional essay type. It assesses the candidate's in-depth knowledge and understanding of various subjects.
Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who clear the Main Examination are called for a personality test. This stage evaluates the candidate's personality traits, communication skills, and suitability for a career in civil services.
Negative Marking
There is a provision for negative marking in the Preliminary Examination. For each incorrect answer, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. It is advisable for candidates to attempt only those questions for which they are confident about the answers.
